Certified Medical Technologist
The Certified Medical Technologist exam and certification is handled and administered by the American medical Technologist (AMT).
There are other recognized national based agencies apart from the AMT that also conduct and accredit Medical Technologist programs. These other recognized institutions include the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES), the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
Eligibility
To be able to sit for the medical technologist certification exam interested candidates must meet the following requirements:
Must be a graduate from any accredited Medical Technologist program with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, or
Must have graduated from any accredited university or college with a Bachelor’s degree, and posses a major in one of the chemical or biological sciences and either:
has completed an accredited program in medical technologist following the earning of the bachelor’s degree referenced in the option above, or has successfully completed a minimum of one year of approved laboratory experience within the last 5 years.

Details
The following items are prohibited and not allowed into the exam area; cellular phones, beepers, pagers, cameras, video equipment, papers, books, textbooks, notebooks, unauthorized scratch paper and food.
All required examination materials such as answer booklets will be provided.
The exam is administered in either a paper test format or as a computer based exam.
Candidate has an option to choose either the paper or computer based format.
All AMT computer-based testing is conducted under contact to Pearson VUE.
Allotted time for the paper and pencil exam format is three hours.
Only advised pencil to be used for the paper and pencil test is #2 pencil.
