Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) Exam information, Study Guide and Flash Cards

EPPP written exam has to be successfully completed to get permission to practice Psychology in any part of the country. The test can be taken before one completes his postdoctoral hours. The test is mandatory to gain license to practice.

It is required to gain your license, even if you have your masters in psychology.

Exam Details

  • The exam can be taken once in every six months depending on the state one would like to practice.
  • Most of the states look for a minimum score of 75% before any kind of grade is given.
  • The test comprises of 200 written questions that covers all scenarios that based on practical cases pertaining to this particular field.
  • There are 8 main categories that make up a variable percentage of the overall score. One needs to have thorough knowledge in all areas of psychology so that they can get through the test.

 Exam Contents

Biological Behavior (11% of the overall score) - Biological and neural behavior and the various methods and ways to support the behavior.

Cognitive –Affective Behavior (13% of the overall score) - Memory retention and theories that are used to test ones, learning, motivation, affect, emotion, executive function etc. It also deals in areas that influence performance that is cognitive in addition to emotional experiences and their reactions.

Social and Multi-cultural Behavior (12% of overall score) – Tests candidates knowledge of a range of groups and their interaction skills.

Life Span and Growth Development (13% of overall score) – Knowledge of development in life span factors along with patterns of typical development is essential.

Diagnosis and assessment (14% of overall score) - Ability to deal with and assess different situations along with problem diagnosis.

Intervention, treatment and Prevention (15% of overall score) - Ability to intervene, treat and prevent varying theories on families, groups and individuals.

Research Methods and Statistics (7% of overall score) - Use of proper methods and selection of instruments to deal and diagnose an issue is checked in this part.

Professional/Legal and Ethical (15% of overall score) - Legal and ethical knowledge relating to psychology.
