Emergency Medical Technician (EMT/ECA) Exam Information, Study Guide and Flash Cards
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) administers the Emergency Medical Technicians exam. NREMT develops standards for competent EMS practice and measuring individuals against that standard. NREMT possess accreditation from The National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). NCAA is recognized as the authority on accreditation standards for professional certification organizations and programs.
Eligibility
Interested applicants should possess the following requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age, and
Must satisfy the minimum requirement established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Must hold one of the following:
An American Red Cross CPR professional rescuer card,
An American Heart Association BLS for the Healthcare Provider, or
CPR equivalent certification from an organization approved by the Bureau of EMS pursuant to 64E-2.308, Florida Administrative code.
Copy of both sides of the signed CPR/Professional rescuer card must be submitted with application.
Exam Registration

Candidate should be ready to present a money order of $20 at the NR written exam centre.
The money order should be made payable to the National Registry of EMT’s.

Exam Details
The certification exam is a combination of a computer based testing and a pen-paper exam test.
It is made up of two parts, exam Cognitive exam and psychomotor exam.
The Cognitive exam is a computer adaptive test that allows questions to be tailored to the individual candidates. A psychomotor exam is however set in advance.
Exam Content
The Emergency medical Technician exam consists of the following:
First Responder exam has 80-110 questions and is timed for 1 hr. and 45 minutes.
The EMT- basics questions are around 70-120 and last for two hrs.
The EMT Intermediate exam consists of 85-135 questions and is for 2hrs and 15 minutes.
The Paramedic Certification has 80-150 questions and is for 2 hrs and 30 minutes.
