IC&RC International Written test for Alcohol & other Test (AODA)

The IC&RA is a voluntary organization and is a collection of several certifying agencies that are responsible for the licensing and credentialing of counselors, specialists and clinical supervisors with respect to drugs and other alcohol abuse. IC&RA has approximately 37000 certified professional AODA’s that are approved by 73 IC&RA certification boards.

Eligibility Requirements for the Exam


The individual looking to appear for the exam needs to have had 6000 hours of work that’s been supervised and that is related to Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse.
Based on ones educational qualifications the supervisory work hours can be reduced; e.g. (1000 hours subsidy) for an associate’s degree, (2000 hours subsidy) with a bachelor’s degree and (4000 hours subsidy) for masters. All the above degrees are in association to Behavioral Science degrees.
The individual should have completed at least 270 hours of AODA education of which 6 hours are used for counselor ethics.
Apart from these, the individual should possess 300 hours of supervision in the IC&RC domain. 10 hours are however essential to be dedicated to the 12 main functions. ?



Exam details


The test is conducted by the board members of IC&RC and is held at SMT test centers.
The test is held 4 times a year; March, June, September and December.
The certification needs to be renewed every 2 years by means of continuing education.
To obtain ones credentials, the code of ethics or statement of affirmation needs to be duly signed.



Exam Format and duration


The exam is a written test of 150 questions in the multiple-choice format.
The questions aim at testing ones practical knowledge in the specific area.

The minimum score required to pass the test is 500

The test duration is three and a half hours.
